The king put is right hand on his left shoulder and started to sing at the top of his voice. Everyone joined him and the whole space was filled with the song. You could tell that the kobolds were very moved, because many had to blink away the tears that filled their eyes.
"Our country is under the ground,
our homes are nice and round.
All day we work in the mine,
which we think is really fine.
After work we drink kobold rum,
we play and laugh and have lots of fun.
We kobolds are very proud,
so we sing this song out loud."
The king picked up the basket and tied it to the cord that was dangling above his head and then pulled on the cord without the basket. The basket was pulled up and disappeared into the hole in the ceiling. The crowd was deathly quiet. It took some minutes but then suddenly the river started to flow strongly and the lake started to fill with clear cool water. The kobolds clapped their hands and cheered:
"Yippee, we have water again!"
Alice who was sitting very quietly behind the stalagmites, thought in surprise: "Giants?"
